COVID-19: How Aviation is Fighting for Survival
13 197 Weergaven 1,3 mln.
So I think I’m starting to understand why they made HAI! All of HAI videos are around 4:30 to 6 minutes long, where Wendover and RLL are usually around 10 to 16 minutes long I just don’t know how exactly making a new channel is profitable compared to just making a new series on a well established and viewed channel like Wendover... while HAI is catching up they still have about 1 million subscribers less.... with that said Sam if you hear me make a video on it Please!!!!
0:22 "The century's first pandemic began" The 2009 H1N1 influenza: Am I a joke to you?
The worst affected industry is live entertainment I'd say. Musicians, performers, technical crew and equipment providers that make these things happen. Mothballed for two years or more.
Wendovr said it himself in 3:21 the ban of Trump from Europe was unprecedented and yet the demorats kept pushing this narrative hat Trump hadn done enough as if Joe is an effin genius
It was already too late for New York.
You need to start adding your own reference so we can cite this video!
Ask me who imagrate from europe to the us during the pandemic
what do you mean 'never before seen, 10 yes ago before ayf tet rose we saw something 1000x worse. in a 100 years, ppl will laugh at covid.
I work on the ramp for delta, and my wife works for SouthWest as a flight attendant. It’s crazy how fast life can change. In February we received the largest profit sharing bonus any company has ever paid out ever. Now we’re hanging on for dear life. 2020 has been a hell of a ride.
thanks for this analysis. I would add something more. The recalibration of society has been very marked including the move from cash, the trend for staycationing and the one that would most affect airlines post Covid recovery... the likely huge loss of Business customers as companies use video calling and virtual means. It would seem likely that all but the most important trips would end and with it the expensive travel/hotel junket culture.
He said “the century’s FIRST PANDEMIC.” I’m ded
Can you make a video on how airlines decide which planes to put on a route?
The spot for Cathay Pacific was in Shanghai. Boo
I am sorry for all airlines who lost their money and all pilots and airhostess who lost their jobs...I pray that Airlines return to normal and get their revenue back🙏🙏
why you hiding?
I saw this unravel from the USS Eisenhower... It felt really quick as I saw the news from China, to Washington State... Damn... That was a long deployment...
6 feet not enough to. I would stay as far as I could
august 2020, sitll social distancing in america because of trump's idiocy. i honestly feel that my life before febuary 2020 was all just a dream and never really happened.
Why do people pronounce Iran as I-ran? No one say Italy as I-tally....
I was studying abroad in France at the time travel was shut down. Soon after we were told to leave within 16 hours and i had the fun job of finding a reasonable flight home. Thank the lord for KLM who I was able to get home with under $600 at the time.
It is still getting wrose we are not doing well so it is better closed the border to stop letting people in ಠ,_」ಠand shut down the airport overseas . I don't want to keep living like this.
me: *saw a news about a330 skid off a runway* also me: i wonder how much people does that plane carried news: 14 passenger with 12 crews also me again: wow, aviation isnt going to survive is it?
When (if) everything opens up and restrictions are lifted I think some travel and tourist activities will bounce back hard, at least initially. I´m only taking 3 weeks vacation this summer and saving 3,5 weeks in the hopes that I can fly somewhere either this winter or early next year and it's seems most people I know are thinking the same way. Saving vacation days for when travel is possible.
Wear a full wrap-around set of eye goggles (like the type sold for painters at Home Depot), and an N-95 respirator mask (also sold at Home Depot), and you will have ZERO RISK of catching any virus. The problem is : Why are those N-95 masks no longer available at Home Depot ????
A LOT of the airport stock footage is from Seatac, which was (probably) the first port of entry for COVID in the US. Clever, if that was intentional.
"As it is a brand new virus" lol
I miss traveling, good to see SeaTac again 6:38, it's been forever :'(
Aviation in my third world is dead, many airlines have already gone broke and there are bout 5 daily flights
It feels weird hearing the Half as Interesting guy talking and not making a joke every five seconds
Wendover likely has airplane porn in his computer.
Why is all the stock footage from Seattle?
Please guys, do stay at home as I wanna be a pilot
Sam loves planes and only planes
My Son is a Pilot for Delta and is still flying out of Seattle but if enough Pilots don’t accept their early retirement package, he’ll be unemployed October 1.
2:57 Perfect time to ban travel, when I was in the US... However, I came back to Europe (as planned on March 17th) but they cancelled my Lufthansa flights and moved me to United...
Ohhhh. Does a 70% cure count as a cure???
The airlines have spent the last decade ramping up fees and not ensuring their survivability or becoming greener, and now they want to be paid to not go bankrupt. I hate to say it but it’s their fault.
Hi Sam. You're doing good work. Carry on.
lol, even in peace italy's borders are a sieve
Coronavirus grounds all planes around the world Boeing 737 : You can't ground me. I am already grounded
China: coronavirus outbreak USA: Travel ban But still allows American citizens to come in. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️moment
I mean by most metrics covid-19 is worse than 9/11. Number of people killed, difficulty of reestablishing safety, total economic impact... pretty much everything but malice.
I mean your comparing a global virus to a terrorist attack, both are bad, but one is obviously gonna have bigger numbers
I'm two months into the future. I say, "It's time for the world to open back up." The longer lock-down goes, the worse our situation becomes.
0:22 isn’t sars the first pandemic?
Everyone : close flying to shut down Coronavirus spread Indonesia government : so anyway, i start flying
Mass Transit Genius Issue at hand and how most of this did not have to happen using simple health protocols: The FAA of major NYC/state airport hubs listens to the CDC and Trump WH/Cuomo/states. It seems like from January to April 1 2020 Trump and Cuomo did not even communicate about airline hubs (where are the record of communications of Trump/Cuomo to each other ?). Airport hubs caused most of the (100,000 into May 2020) deaths from covid 19 virus by serving as a super spreader Jet conduit. Any handling it even a bit better would have could deaths down substantially including ventilators (which are in no way related to the spread). Vents are not even an issue here. Who is not doing their job at the WH, state and airport hubs? Trump's solution was to buy GOLD, WPM and HCQ an anti viral in France and used in USA.
don't want to kill your buzz, but forever is a long time. It will remain in people's mind's until they forget, which is always sooner than you think
I made a tribute video if you all want to see how strong aviation really is! nllike.info/baby/video/g6GrrI29g3lstoI
As someone who works in finance, I’d like to point something out. These companies are multi-BILLION dollar organizations... why did they all come asking for help after a week or two? Stock buybacks. They take their profit, and artificially boost their stock price instead of saving it. Had they saved even a fraction of their profits from the last few years we’d be looking at a much different situation. I’m 110% all for free market pretty much everything - except these stock buybacks. You shouldn’t be allowed to artificially boost your company’s price, then screw millions of people out of their retirement plans when it crashes, then ask those same people they screwed to bail them out.
What is the use of cheap fuel when no flights is in the air and whenever that happens fuel will increase
I started my first Airline Pilot job in March 2020. Years of school and work experience to get my dream job, just to be laid off in the same month.
Zac Lew Sorry, man. When this is over, I hope you get your dream job back.
He sounds so suspenceful
Calling all avgeeks so far we have lost American 757's, 767's, E190's and A330-300's Virgin Atlantic 747's, A346's Delta MD88's and MD90's United 757's Interjet FlyBe AirItaly Eurowings although the airlines were struggling prior to this, the wuhan virus was the final nail on the coffin
Have airlines substitutes smaller aircraft for larger ones on international routes? how are such substitutions limited by range? limited by availability of smaller aircraft with adequate range? Are such aircraft refueling more along the way? at Gander, Anchorage etc? You say elsewhere that cargo planes are refueling at Anchorage, but are downsized passenger planes doing this as well?
I have a hope, that in the same way 9/11 made airlines and airports take security much more seriously, the COVID-19 pandemic will make airlines take hygiene more seriously, so we could fly in planes without worrying about becoming sick from just touching the tray in front of me. But this is probably just wishful thinking
“ I am never going to financially recover from this” 😂
That logo over your face tho 😂😂... glad you guys took part of something cool
i just bought curiosty stream with your link and also got nebula :D
Aviation: Exists. Wendover Productions: It’s free real estate.
Really bad.
A great explanation, This helped me do my online homework of blog writing on a controversial topic Thanks Wendover Productions!!!
Fairly certain it started in December 2019, not March 2020
Nice videography at Sea-Tac, love that airport!
On the oil price, a lot of airlines have years long fuel contracts at fixed price, which they stipulate to avoid volatility in that market. So I am really not sure how many will benefit from those. If anything, fuel companies will...
The focus should be the workers, not the Airlines. It's amusing that this video casually brushes off Chinese Airlines that survive since their Gov't owned. Remember, Gov't is the people. Title should be "How Aviation in 'Democratic Countries' fight for their lives"
Unless they gonna screen everyone temp and require everyone wear mask is just not safe in the plane no matter how much cleaning is done.
Someone is practically stealing this video, a channel called real life lore 2 please strike them
It effected me too. The ban to and from Europe.
H1N1 was a pandemic.
Wanna bet even as you read this comment, the Airline board of directors and CEOs are giving themselves massive bonuses?
Well... It's survival is kind of guaranteed. maybe it won't be these companies that continue air travel, but at this point to our modern society, it's so importan, whatever gaps will be in aviation, someone will step in and fill it.
I thought this was gonna be about birds lol
bad history
COVID -19 it’s tell people if all of word are not doing anything , they leave honest and true nature , and make China does whatever China want ,the whole world will pay a lot of things.
TODAY (APRIL 24,2020) SOME ....2,710,264 PERSONS WERE INFECTED BY THE CCP CORONA VIRUS FROM CHINA … & THE WORLD-WIDE THE RESULTING DEATH NOW IS…… 190,890 (DEATH TODAY). Also as of today some 1,003,861 concerned persons around the world had already signed the following ‘PETITION TO REMOVE THE ETHIOPIAN DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION (W.H.O.) - TEDROS ADHANOM GHEBREYESUS.’ IF YOU HAVE NOT SIGN YET, KINDLY PLEASE DO SO AND THEN PLEASE SHARE TO ALL YOUR CONTACTS! (The world will Thank You for what you have done.)
There might be no industry more severely impacted by Covid-19. The Tourism Industry: wait.....what?
Loyalty? Where was that loyalty when they hit me with a $50 fee for a luggage that was 1-2lbs overweight?
Wow. New AND novel.
From what I have seen the public loves to vent and wish doom to the airlines at times like this. You might do a video on what will happen if they get their wish. What will it be like if the USA only has 3 or 4 airlines left after this.
trump: the virus is a lie from the demokrats
I mean, I can't say I'm sorry for them. Saving the airlines with government funds is critically unfair. It would mean profit passes on to shareholders but losses pass on to the taxpayer. Now is the time to invest in railways, or other forms of rapid intercity transport, which is less polluting and not so prone to market fluctuations.
Covid19 Is not the first pandemic of the century. That's the swine flu...
Accept for a few major cities run by Democrats the U.S. greatly over estimated the effects of covid 19. if they would of shut down one industry for one month those effects would have been cut by 90% and saved trillions of dollars and lives. The passenger airline industry.
I want to become a pilot, but with this pandemic, it’s questionable sadly...
Same , was planning to become an Airline Pilot after completing my SE degree. But i feel its much safer to go with my current field
I mean, it's sad to have to think that way, but realistically once the effects and measures taken to stop the spread, and of course the virus itself, cease, most airlines (or whatever of them are left) will probably have gotten rid of their senior personnel and require a whole new fleet of personnel, including flight crew, since to an airline a newbie first officer is always cheaper than their most senior captain.
I learn a lot through this channel. Keep going mate! Love from India
Maybe when all the companies fold, government can step in and privatized airlines will not be a thing anymore. Well, except in the US, bc the US loves late-stage capitalism and paying absurd amounts for air travel.
I saw both your videos... you dont understand oil markets. Saudi and Russia increased production by at most 3 million barrels. The fall in demand is around 20 to 30 million barrels per day. Thier price war does nothing.
WWE universe sayin...,,,. CHINA SUCKS, CHINA SUCKS, CHINA SUCKS ,CHINA SUCKS,🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Air ✈️
Nobody is going to want to fly anymore. I’m taking a vacation by car to Yosemite instead.
This is só good for nature. Really happy about it.
Nice video. For education purposes, recommend another animation showing how coronavirus replicates and how Remdesivir kills COVID-19 virus : @
I know you're half as interesting u can't hide your secrets
Does this mean longer check-in times in the future? Like screening for fever?
The reports of the death of the airline industry are greatly exaggerated. There were people willing to travel during COVID and would have had those flights not been cancelled. Millions on millions of people have flight credits. Waiting for the green light.
March 20th?! Covid-19 was announced to the world in late December.
The lack of air travel must be good for the environment though, right?
Its not the first pandemic of the century 0:22
A: Funny B: No
i done feel very proud or anything u know.it jutthe atifaction.but i am feeling good for the other proffeion for having their u know own buiene
being from medical background i am ecure of my job lo or o for other medical job,but i feel bad for aviation indutry.for the next 2 year people will think twice before going to fly
